God is dead and Pickle Rick killed em

But do you remember Susan Sarandon’s deconstructive soliloquy from this episode where she tells Rick to stop using his supposed intellectual prowess to justify toxic behavior? It’s gold, and no amount of psychopathic, sauce-chasing incels will change that.

^^^ This. That episode really was damned good, no matter how irritating Rick and Morty can be. She ripped him a new one all centered around “Do the work if you want to improve as a person, be there for your family and be fulfilled”.

That episode is kinda proof positive that it’s really the toxic fans that are a problem, because the show itself is obviously written from the perspective that Rick isn’t really a hero and that it’s his problems that are at the heart of why he suffers so much. He’s sympathetic, but he’s still ultimately his own antagonist, and that episode lays bare exactly what some of his worst problems are.

“Some people, well, some people would rather die.”
