Prompt: dean and cas being away from each other for the first time in their 20 years of marriage and being all dramatic and sappy about it šŸ˜

lmao that’s so them tho

ā€œOh my god, stop!ā€ Sam says as he snatches Dean’s phone out of his hands. Ā He’d been texting Castiel againĀ – at least the tenth time since they sat down for lunch – and it was driving Sam crazy. Ā ā€œDude, he’s fine. Ā You don’t have to keep checking in on him.ā€

ā€œI know he’s fine!ā€ Dean laughs like he’s trying to play it off, then leans forward and very solemnly adds,Ā ā€œBut if he’s not-ā€

ā€œDean? Ā I love you and everything, but if you don’t relax I’m not keeping you company for the rest of the week.ā€ Ā

Dean pouts and slumps in his chair, frowning at his burger. Ā His fingers twitch like they want to grab the phone and start frantically typing out another message, and Sam pockets it just to be safe. Ā It’s kind of sweet how much his brother cares about Cas, but right now it’s driving him crazy. Ā

The two of them have been married for going on twenty years. Ā In that time, the longest they’d been apart is maybeĀ twenty four hours. Ā So Sam gets it, he really does. Ā Dean’s used to coming home every day and finding Cas there. Ā He’s not used to falling asleep alone or waking up to a quiet, lonely house. Ā That’s why, with Cas across the country at a work conference for a week, he’d offered Dean the guest room at his place. Ā Between himself, Eileen, and the kids, there’s always someone around, and he figured Dean might appreciate the company.

And he does… except he’s mopey and keeps going on and on about how he misses Cas. Ā Again, very sweet, but soĀ getting old. Ā And it’s only been two days! Ā How Sam’s going to deal with this until Saturday?

It takes a lot of carefully timed disappearances. Ā Sam will leave and Eileen will happen to come by to take over distracting Dean. Ā Then the kids will have a go at it, then back to Sam for the whole process to start over again. Ā The kids at least think it’s great to have Uncle Dean around: they play video games, make blanket forts in the living room, and have a movie marathon. Ā

The movie marathon actually ends rather abruptly with Dean startling his niece and nephew when he bursts into tears. Ā Princess Leia tells Han she loves him, and as soon as he answers back, Dean starts sobbing into a throw pillow and moaning about how much he loves and misses Cas and how now he knows exactly how hard it was for Leia once Han was handed over to Jabba and-

And Sam really just wants to wring his neck. Ā

Though he of course offers to take Dean to the airport to pick up Cas. Ā Dean could just as easily do it himself, but his legs are shaking too badly to use the pedals so Sam takes over. Ā They wait by baggage claim for Cas to arrive. Ā They must have been looking the wrong way, because Castiel manages to sneak up behind them and wrap Dean up in a bear hug from behind. Ā

Dean immediately relaxes into the embrace, head leaning back to rest on Cas’ shoulder and sighing loudly in contentment. Ā Cas nuzzles against his husband and places a kiss to his temple. Ā It’s sweet and adorable and none of Sam’s business, so he steps aside and goes to wait for Cas’ luggage to arrive. Ā When he comes back, suitcase in tow, Dean’s got this huge grin on his face and Cas – the ever stoic, never smiles for more than two seconds at a time – is smiling so widely that his gums show. Ā It’s a good look on him, and Sam’s happy to see two of his favorite people so happy. Ā

ā€œShould we head out? Ā Maybe grab something to eat before I drop you guys off?ā€

Castiel reaches for Dean’s hand and squeezes it. Ā ā€œThank you, Sam, but I’d just like to go home and enjoy some time with my husband. Ā I haven’t gotten the chance to truly talk to him in so long, and I miss the sound of his voice.ā€

Wow. Ā Adorable. Ā And the nicest way he could’ve said I wanna go fuck my husband into the mattressĀ that wouldn’t make Sam squirm in discomfort.Ā

ā€œSounds good. Ā Let’s go.ā€

To no one’s surprise, Sam and Eileen don’t hear from them for the rest of the weekend.
