I am having a mental breakdown right now because I need to complete at least 10 service hours to be considered an active participant of the NHS, but at my school they put limits on who can volunteer when, and events are first come first serve so if you don’t RSVP to an event within 15 minutes of the email going out, you’re essentially screwed. And this is the third event I have missed out on because of this ridiculous system they have set up, and I’m going to get kicked out of the club. I’m literally having a panic attack right now and I don’t know what I’m supposed to do
Do you have to volunteer via the school? Can you volunteer directly with an nhs dept?
You need to volunteer with the school at NHS events. I haven’t even paid my dues yet and I’m starting to think it’s not worth the money…
believe me, if I could I would have logged my hours at the library or some shit already.
What school is that? It sounds odd that their are not enough spots for everyone to volunteer?
I go to school in New Jersey (yay Chris Christie) but on top of that, the club is run like a clique rather than an actual community service club. We do basically nothing other than a few events per year and I don’t even know where the money for that goes. The elected officers weren’t even elected- they are appointed by the officers from the previous year (so all the seniors pick their favorite juniors to serve positions) and if you aren’t friends with the teachers, you don’t get a spot. And you need to do all your service through the NHS and can’t use Volunteer hours from elsewhere. It’s complete bullshit.
Wow that does sound like bull! How do they expect it to actually do any good?! Can you speak to the headteacher, or are they hands off with the club? I sound dead nosy, sorry!
